Fox Glacier

There's not a lot to do in Fox except for the compulsory hike on the glacier, so that is what we do. The glacier is unusual in that it ends in a temperate rainforest, and our hike involves a trek up through this rainforest in order to reach the lower part of the glacier. The guides actually carve out steps on the surface of the glacier in order to make it safer for the hikers to walk on it - to see the steps click here.

Accommodation

Fox Glacier Hotel - although in a very convenent location, right beside the buiding where all the hikes depart from, this hotel is of very poor standard. Rooms are tiny and unkempt, with little in the way of mod cons. Not recommended.
